Olympic figure skater Ashley Wagner suffers from depression

As a three-time U.S. national champion, 2016 World silver medalist, and winner of give Grand Prix events, Wagner felt on top of the world. However, yesterday Wednesday, on World Mental Health Day, she confessed in a series of Instagram videos about her coping with depression after not making the 2018 Olympic team.

She said on one of her videos: “After nationals and the way everything went down, I went into a very severe depression. I could barely get out of bed. I could barely function and just the day-to-day was such a struggle.” She added, “As an athlete, it’s really easy to tie in your sense of self-worth with how successful you are in competition. And I opened up to friends and family about that and about how I was feeling and how low I was.’ At the end she also said she had gained some tools to help her feel better.
