“Hate crimes” on the rise in America
A recent report from the FBI has confirmed hate crimes are on the rise. While the country’s overall crime has dropped a 0.2 percent from 2015-16, hate crimes rose up 17% between 2016 and 2017.
According to the report, 3 out of 5 crimes were targeted to a people of other races or ethnicities, while 1 out of every 5 target people for their religion.
Last year, a total of 7,175 hate crimes were reported, out of which 2,013 were directed specifically against black Americans, 1,130 were directed against people for their sexual orientation. The FBI also reported that anti-Semitic attacks rose 37%.
