India confirms over 1,000 COVID-19 cases; 8 deaths in 24 hours

At least 8 people have been confirmed dead in the last 24 hours in India, bringing the death toll to 27. During the daily briefing, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Health Family Welfare, Lav Agarwal, stated: "most cases of death have seen old age and co-morbidity play a very major role." The Indian government on Sunday set up some 11 empowered groups, containing members of the Prime Minister's Officer, to manage the coronavirus pandemic. Like other parts of the world, India is experiencing shortages in medical supplies and beds, prompting the Ministry of Textiles to coordinate efforts with Indian manufacturers to address the issue.
