8 Fashion Tips for Business Interviews

Colors

Colors have the ability to attract or detract from an interview, so it’s important that you choose your colors wisely! Men: For men, it is typical to go with the standard blue and black that powerfully send the message of being professional and mature. However, depending on the company you're interviewing for, one sure way to stand out from the competition may be to wear a bright colored shirt. Bright colors can send the message that you’re a risk taker, internally happy, artistic, colorful and positive. Women: To all of my independent ladies out there, if you want to impress and be seen as powerful, in control and dynamic, we here at “Legend Magazine” recommend that you wear a combination of red, black and white on the interview! Women who wear red and black are seen as powerful, professional and confident. Compliment the red and black with a nice solid white. One caution though. Too much red can be distracting so try to be balanced.

Hairstyle Hair can be a distraction on an interview if it is not neat, well arranged and in style. Styles vary from state to state and one thing appropriate in New York may not be appropriate in Brazil. Don’t take risk with your hair. Go with a style that in general is acceptably common in the State or county that you reside.

Perfume/ Colognes So many people have allergies when it comes to perfumes and colognes so as a rule, we here at “Legend Magazine” say leave them off on an interview. We never heard of anyone getting a job because their perfume or cologne smelled so wonderful on their interview. If you did, please write us and let us know. It would make a very interesting story. Putting on too much perfume or cologne could result in losing out on an awesome job opportunity. Why take the risk?

Shoes Fashionable and comfortable is the rule when it comes to selecting shoes for an interview. If your feet are killing you during the interview than your probably not going to be focused. True, you may be able to hide your discomfort if your feet are in pain, but you

Fashionable and comfortable is the rule when it comes to selecting shoes for an interview. If your feet are killing you during the interview than your probably not going to be focused. True, you may be able to hide your discomfort if your feet are in pain, but your mind will be divided. Go with something fashionable yet comfortable, and please don’t forget to shine your shoes!

Press/Iron Clothes Wrinkles are not your friend on an interview. It looks tacky and disorderly and will likely get you eliminated from the screening process.

Jewelry There is nothing wrong with decorating yourself to impress! Break out the Bbs Cufflinks, the Rolex, and the stylish earrings. We only have one caution here, and that is to keep it simple. Too much of anything is typically not good, so don’t go overboard. However, when it comes to rings, we recommend leaving them off unless it’s your wedding band. Jewelry on your fingers can be very distracting on an interview as well as very large earrings. They also may give the impression that you are more concerned about fashion than work quality.

Accessories Never show up to an interview empty handed. You should always carry three copies of your resume and references. Make sure you have paper for notes and at least three pens. What are you going to carry all of this with? Find a nice simple, professional folder. A black professional folder typically makes the best impression.

Time

You have heard of the term “Fashionably Late,” but in the business world being late is not fashionable at all. Showing up late to an interview shows a lack of respect for your interviewers and leaves the impression that you’re not serious about the job opportunity. Be sure to show up to the interview at least 30 minutes early. This will supply you sufficient time to prepare mentally, relax and fill out any necessary paperwork associated with the position. Today's job market is extremely competitive, and we’re not saying that if you apply all of our suggestions that you will get the job. Getting the job depends mostly on your skills, abilities, and the level of competition. However, you are less likely to be eliminated during the interview process from fashion violations if you follow our simple guide!
